METRO COUNCIL WILL VOTE ON NEW DOWNTOWN LIBRARY

The EBR Parish Library Board of Control recently voted to spend $19 million to construct a new 57,000 square foot downtown library building, rejecting a substitute motion that called for spendng $6 million or less for renovations to the existing buiding.    This new library would be slightly smaller than the 65,000 square foot existing main library on Goodwood Blvd.

Based on the number of people entering the libraries in the library system, the downtown library is one of the least used libraries in the parish, ranking 11th or 12th out of the 13 libraries in the parish.

The EBR Metro-Council will be voting in late November or early to December on whether or not to approve this $19 million expenditure to construct a new downtown library.
